Stephen Moss Author descriptionIn 1980, Bill Oddie was subjected to a change of life and a change of career. His surreal comedy series The Goodiesended and Bill Oddie's Little Black Bird Book was published, arguably the first book ever to introduce an element of humour into ornithology. Many such books have followed, including more of Bill's own. Meanwhile, he replaced BBC TV comedy series with BBC TV natural history programmes. Over the last thirty years Bill has presented many television series from Birding with Bill Oddie to Bill Oddie Goes Wild, culminating in presenting the groundbreakingly live TV nature series Springwatch and Autumnwatch. In 2003 Bill was awarded an OBE for services to conservation, though he feels it is only in recent yeras that he has had the time to truly justify the award. |
